10 years of Recurrent Disc-Related Low Back Pain

Background

A 41-year-old male with a history of a disc injury and chronic low back pain. Over the years he had tried massage, physiotherapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care for the issue, with no lasting relief. He frequently felt like his back was "going to go out," to the point where he was hesitant to lift his infant son out of the crib on days he felt vulnerable. On the golf course, flare-ups sometimes left him lying on the ground by the second hole, requiring friends to help him into the cart for the remainder of the round.

Treatment Course

  • After Treatment 1: His lower back felt good enough to play and walk a full 18 holes of golf. The only issue afterward was right foot pain - consistent with a history of a right foot fracture and surgery.

  • Months later: His low back "went out" again while passing his son to his wife. It was resolved in a single NRT session.

  • Five months later: The patient returned with neck discomfort - his lower back pain had not recurred at all since the previous treatment.

  • Six months after that: He came in with right shoulder pain from playing a lot of tennis.

Ongoing Outcome

The patient now only needs treatment 3-4 times per year, with each session resolving his presenting issue for months at a time. He has also become one of my most valuable referral sources, regularly sending friends and family - with all kinds of complaints, especially back pain for treatment.
