Frequently Asked Questions.
A few of the most common questions about NRT, workshops and Jonas’s approach, all in one place.
About Neuro-Relaxation Technique
-
NRT (Neuro-Relaxation Technique) is a manual treatment method that uses gentle, repetitive motions to relax the nervous system through neural circuits in the brain and spinal cord. By relieving tissue tension and pain at the source, it addresses underlying tension patterns that can also improve postural and skeletal alignment.
-
The techniques stimulate sensory and proprioceptive pathways to activate the parasympathetic nervous system - the body’s own “rest and heal” response. That shift in tone is what allows joints, muscles, and fascia to release and reset. Clinically, this shows up fast: you’ll typically know within minutes whether a technique is working, which makes it easy to adjust in real time during a session.
NRT shares the same core focus as Feldenkrais - working with the nervous system rather than only the tissue. Where it differs is in approach and application: NRT uses rhythmic joint and nerve stimulation delivered through regional, orthopedic-style protocols (by body region - Cranium, cervical, upper limb, thoracic, lumbar, pelvis, lower limb), rather than the subtle rhythmic listening of Craniosacral therapy or the active movement-based re-patterning of Feldenkrais.
-
NRT is evidence-informed - built on established neurophysiological principles, including parasympathetic activation, proprioceptive input, and neuroplasticity (such as sensory-motor cortex reorganization through repeated, targeted stimulation). The workshop covers the research context behind why these mechanisms work, not just how to apply the techniques.
-
NRT's gentle, nervous-system-focused approach makes it well suited for a wide range of pain and neurological presentations, including chronic pain, post-concussion symptoms such as cervicogenic dizziness and disorientation, headaches and migraines, TMJ dysfunction, disc injury and facet joint irritation, and neuralgias (nerve-related pain). Because NRT relies on light, repetitive stimulation rather than forceful adjustment, it's also well suited for acute injuries and sensitive presentations.
The Workshop
-
NRT is taught to registered massage therapists and other manual/movement therapists who want a technique they can start using with clients right away. Most attendees are practicing RMTs looking to add a fast, low-risk tool to their existing sessions.
-
Open to all RMTs and other manual practitioners, no prior NRT experience required.
-
How to down-regulate tension and irritation across nearly any joint, muscle, or nerve-related structure in the body"
How to thoroughly assess the spinal column and pelvis for positional asymmetry and mobility restriction
How to trigger the body’s healing response by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system via sensory and proprioceptive pathways
-
NRT is taught in regional modules - currently Cranium/Cervical Spine/Upper Limb, Thoracic Spine/Ribs/Sternum, and Lumbar Spine/Pelvis/Lower Limb, plus a Fundamentals workshop covering the core clinical framework.
-
Each session runs a full day, typically 9:00 AM–5PM.
-
Workshops have run in-person to date
-
Rapid relief of pain, often with long-lasting results
You can treat a lesion indirectly, at a distance from the client’s main complaint
Clients can remain fully clothed throughout the session
You'll know within minutes whether a technique is effective, so you can adapt on the spot.
Registration & Logistics
-
Workshops are offered around British Columbia, including Squamish, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island, with more locations added as demand grows. Check the current workshop listing on this site for the next confirmed date and venue.
-
Investment - $350 (includes GST) per session/module. This covers the day of instruction and a printed manual.
-
Email JonasRMT@gmail.com with your name and which course date you’d like to attend. Registration deadlines are listed with each workshop date - register early, as spots are limited.
-
Cancellations made before the registration deadline are fully refunded. After the deadline, or for no-shows, the fee is non-refundable - however, participants may transfer their registration to a future workshop date at no extra cost, space permitting.
-
Yes - returning students and referrals are welcome.
After the Workshop
-
Yes. Jonas offers ongoing mentorship for past students, including split practical sessions and observation time, so you’re not on your own translating the course material into real client sessions.
-
NRT is taught as a gentle, low-force approach designed to avoid further tissue injury, but as with any manual technique, clinical judgment matters - know when a presentation is outside your scope and warrants referral to another provider. This is covered in the workshop itself and reinforced through post-course mentorship.
